The DIary of Attica Lehane
by
Leo Mercer (Book & lyrics) & Talia Erdal (Music)
The Diary of Attica Lehane is a statement on the importance of human connection, freedom of artistic expression, and the courage to find light, even in the darkest of times.
As much an exploration of grief as it is a glimpse into a potential future, the story unfolds in an immersive music-theatre piece underscored by a cello-driven pop-classical soundtrack. Amidst the backdrop of a VR landscape that ranges from self-created environments to a metaverse reminiscent of social platforms, The Diary of Attica Lehane is a resonant narrative about the enduring human spirit in the face of oppressive technological control. Through her experiences, Attica’s story challenges the audience to consider the role of emerging technologies as a force for creativity and expression, rather than instruments of control.
It’s an innovative piece combinig the personal and the political, enveloping its audience in a hauntingly bleak yet ultimately hopeful vision. The non-spoken role of the cellist, who scores the entire show, embodies Attica’s mother, providing a powerful undercurrent of emotion and connection to the protagonist's story.
